Hei Kura mo Mahaki Intiative ARCHIVED What is the purpose of the "Hei kura mo Mahaki" initiative? It is a fundraising initiative of Te Aitanga A Mahaki to generate funds for the Easter 2008 celebrations where we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of King Koroki's opening of the Wharepuni Te Pikihoro at Takipu Marae and the Memorial Dining Hall at Mangatu Marae in March 1958. We will pick up rubbish at the Rhythm and Vine Festival site in Gisborne from Monday 31st December 2007 to Wednesday 2nd January 2008 alongside the Maori Battalion C Company Reunion Committee and Te Poho o Rawiri Marae . Go on to www.rhythmandvines.co.nz to see more about this hui. We need 80 people for each of the 3 days to meet our contract commitments. Because this event is an R18 event all volunteers must be 18 years of age or over. The rubbish shifts to be worked are: 6pm - 2am Monday 31st December 2007 - Mangatu Marae 2am - 10am Tuesday 1st January 2008 - Takipu Marae 10am - 6pm Tuesday 1st January 2008 - Tapuikitia Marae & Other Mahaki Marae 10am - 6pm Tuesday 2nd January 2008 - Rongopai/Pakowhai/Takitimu Marae
Who is co-ordinating the initiative? Robyn Rauna (027 249 4166 or 06 868 5094) is the Project Manager and Jack Tomoana (027 359 8174) is the Logistics Manager. The Te Aitanga A Mahaki Trust will be the organisation overseeing this initiative.
What is involved if I agree to participate in the initiative? You will work an 8 hour length period within a team of 20 people. There are two roles, either a Team Leader or a rubbish collector. The Team Leader will issue instructions to their teams and the rubbish collectors will pick up and collect rubbish at the Rhythm and Vine concert site. You should come prepared on the day with: * a packed lunch, fruit and a drink/water; * proper covered footwear (jandals and sandals will be no good around broken glass), sunblock * a warm jersey, raincoat, sun hat, towel (all those things you need to cope in different weather conditions) You will be contacted either by email, snail mail or telephone the week before the initiative - explaining where you should come to on the day and meet with your Team.
What incentives are there to participate? You get to be a part of a tribal fundraising campaign - he mahi tumeke rawa tera. You will during your shift ,get a cup of tea and snack refreshments . Finally, to thank you for your generosity in helping out, you and your family will be invited to attend a thank you barbeque on Friday 4th January 2008 at the Olympic Pools Complex, Centennial Marine Drive, Gisborne at 12 noon. Teams that will work shifts will be organised by Marae but if you have 20+ whanau members that you would like to keep together just speak with Robyn or Jack. This will be a great opportunity for us all to work together hei Iwi kotahi so the more people the merrier! Finally, people will need to signal their interest in participating in this initiative by completing the volunteer form. by 10th December 2007 so that Team lists can be compiled. So talk with other members of your whanau and get mobilised.
Initiative co-ordinators, Jack Tomoana and Robyn Rauna.
