TAPUIHIKITIA MARAE

 PENE BROWN

PROFILE

I have an extensive background in governance, working with a range of Maori organizations in the fields of health, education, farming and social needs. I constantly work in successfully organizing the appropriately appointed committees to achieve the aspirations of their stakeholders. Many of the positions I hold, show that I have commitment and integrity with an appetite for hard work. I have developed excellent people skills that are essential for putting together teams that achieve the required out come.

 

RONGOPAI MARAE

 POTATUTATU BILL RURU

PROFILE

Bill has been a Te Aitanga a Mahaki Trustee since it was established in 1988. He has been involved in the Seafood Industry for over 10 years and is one of the customary fisheries Kaitiaki for the iwi. Annually, he negotiates the best return for the iwi from its fishing quota and he was elated when Te Aitanga a Mahaki became one of the first iwi in the country to receive its interim fisheries allocation. Education and training iwi are a priority for Bill, he is a registered Seafood Industry Training Organisation Assessor and has qualifications in Aquaculture and Customary Fishing. He is involved with Trustee training and also visits Kohanga Reo and Primary Schools to share his expertise in nga tini a Tangaroa.

 

PARIHIMANIHI MARAE

PROFILE

The history of Parihimanihi Marae and her people are my heart and soul - me! I apply again to represent Parihimanihi on the Mahaki Trust and I do so in the knowledge that since moving home in 1978 I have worked hard and given my skills to my whanau, my hapu, my iwi. Over the pass sixteen years I have carried the following responsibilities for Parihimanihi; Marae committee member, Marae chairperson, Maori committee member, secretary & treasurer, Marae trustee chair, Mahaki trust rep, TROTAK trustee, Turanga Health Co. Director. My skills include; Parihimanihi political knowledge, Ngati Waahia Tikanga me Kawa, Parihimanihi history, Management, Business and Administration, HR, Project management, Accounts and Computer. I am currently employed as Pouwhakataki, Ministry of Education.

 

MANGATU MARAE

 RENE BABBINGTON

PROFILE

I have been the Mahaki delegate for Mangatu Marae for the last 6 years. I am currently employed by the Trust; I am working on an economic development strategy to advance the cultural, economic and social well being of the people. I have a professional background in the public sector having worked with DSW and IRD. From my professional background I have the support of wide ranging networks and infrastructures. I am completing a Bachelor of Hapu Development and a Bachelor for Iwi Environmental Management. I understand the hard work and commitment that is needed when representing the people and would like to continue to make positive contributions to Te Aitanga a Mahaki development.

 

TAKITIMU MARAE

PETER TUPARA

PROFILE

I am currently the representative to Mahaki Trust Board from my marae and have been for the last 4 years and would like to continue. I sit on the marae as the chairperson for our working committee. I know the trust is heading in the direction for the betterment of our people so would like to be involved and also to contribute to it as well.

 

RANGATIRA MARAE

CHARLES HARONGA BROWN

PROFILE

Charles has been involved in Rangatira Marae committee for a number of years. Charles has been the Te Aitanga a Mahaki Trustee since the Trust was set up. Charles is part of the Fish Readiness group and is involved with the Gisborne District Council regarding the waterways.

PHILLIP GULLY

PROFILE

Ki nga mihi o te Tau hou kia koutou nga pononga o Tarere me nga whanau whanui o Te Aitanga a Mahaki. Tena koutou Tena koutou. I am the current Te Aitanga a Mahaki Trustee for Tarere. I have been nominated by our marae committee for a further term of 3 years according to the new voting system. I acknowledge the confidence shown for my nomination by the whanau. I am the marae committee chairperson; I also look after Tarere marae, the grounds and take the bookings. I am a Ringatu minister, also as a Te Aitanga a Mahaki Trustee I am the kaitiaki for fish permits. I have a passion for Tarere's future and the future of our iwi. Tena koutou, Tena koutou, Kia ora tatou.

 

TAKIPU MARAE

 BARRY MARTIN THOMAS

PROFILE

I have been involved in Takipu marae committee for the last 4 years becoming a Trustee for Takipu in 2005. I am committed to the development of Te Aitanga a Mahaki at all levels: whanau, hapu and iwi and I believe that if we all work together towards a common goal for Mahaki Trust we can overcome any obstacle and achieve anything we set our minds to. I am currently a full-time firefighter with the NZ Fire Service. Previously I worked for Te Runanga o Turanganui a Kiwa, managed a cable TV Company in Gisborne and worked for ANZ & Postbank in Gisborne and Wellington. In 1995 I completed a NZ Diploma in Business Studies at Tairawhiti Polytechnic.

 

MATAWAI MARAE

KATHERINE MARY ARAMOANA

PROFILE

I have been the Mahaki delegate for Matawai Marae for 18 months. I am aware that being a Mahaki delegate means working for the benefit of all marae under the Te Aitanga a Mahaki structure. I have many life skills gained through dealing with people through all walks of life and my extended family. I will endeavor to represent our people to the best of my ability.

 

PAKOHAI MARAE

 MINI HINEHOU MCKENZIE

PROFILE

I feel privileged and humbled to have been approached by the whanau to make myself available to be a Trustee of the Te Aitanga a Mahaki Trust on behalf of all the whanau at Pakohai Marae. I currently work as a Project Manager for the Ministry of Education based out of Wellington but living and working from home here in Gisborne. I will bring to the role of Trustee a wide range of people and managerial skills. The work I manage for the MOE is a contract funded by Child Youth and Family Services and is about whanau and community development from a strengths based focus. This community development work and operating from a strength based focus ensures engagement with whanau and community and ensures and assures their ownership of their forward development. I believe this approach will add value and enhance the wonderful work the Mahaki Trust has done to date.
